Paul Bruce Beeson was born in 1908 in Livingston, Montana, but grew up in Anchorage, Alaska. He attended the University of Washington and after graduating from McGill Medical School in 1933, he completed an internship at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital. He then joined his father in general practice in Ohio. In 1939, he became chief resident at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital and in 1942 joined the Emory University medical faculty.
